| Re: Wrap your head around this lol power companies are crooks. Listen to this. We have a substantial windmill farm 20 minutes down the road from the town I live in. This power is enough to power the gta and surrounding areas all the way up to caledon and possibly hamilton region. Do they keep the power here? Do they decrease the amount we have to pay due to cheaper manufacturing costs? Do they create any new jobs in the area for the maintenance of the windmills? No they dont. They bring in people from America to mantain the windmill. The power is sold to an American company for far less than we pay for power. It is then sold back to Ontario Hydro at an increased price and the distributed to use for the whopping price we pay. With all the discussion of going green and finding alternate sources of energy, cheaper and longer lasting, why are our rates continously going up? Because they can. I cant afford to go off the grid. But when I can I will.

| Re: Wrap your head around this Hey there Eatfish... If you live in a house near Caledon, then you are paying around 6 cents per kWh for your electricity. The Wind Farms are all being paid between 10 and 13 cents per kWh for their energy (by you through your rates). The reason you still get it for around 6 cents is because of the blended costs for power from cheaper resources like the government contracts with the nuclear and water powered plants like Niagara Falls. Where you will really get clipped, is as more and more people start getting paid 80.2 cents per kWh for energy generated from solar panels on their home rooftops. The Government must take us all for fools as they make it sound like this is found money, but in actual fact - every consumer in Ontario will pay more for energy to cover the amount paid to these solar generators. I am not against solar power by any means, but I think it is unfair to blame the Utilities. This is all driven by the government through their Green Energy Act and the real benefactors will be those that can afford to spend tens of thousands of dollars to put in solar systems and have them paid for by you and me. If you think you can avoid those costs by signing up with a Retailer - think again! The Retailers in Ontario only replace the portion of bill related to part of the power purchase. The uplifts that are included in your current 6 cent energy charge get separated and tacked on to a Retailers bill making their charges close to double what you would pay if you stayed on the Energy Board Rate. Your best bet is to be a school or government building. They get to purchase expensive solar systems using taxpayer money, then have ratepayers pay them for the energy they produce. The first time we can truly see people getting something for nothing at our expense. |
